A generous collection of local and American muscle cars will rumble into the Australian International Motor Show Auction, many of which are expected to go for record prices. The Aussie and US Muscle Cars are a star attraction among the 32 vehicles Shannons will present at their traditional Motor Show sale on 21 October.
The Australian group include a pair of GTHO Falcons, an original Brambles Red 1970 Phase II and a fully restored Monza Green 1971 Phase III, expected to sell for up to $450,000 and $800,000 respectively. A 1973 Falcon XA GT RPO83 Hardtop, finished in Yellow Glo, is in exceptional condition and should sell in the $180,000-$220,000 price range. An earlier 1967 Falcon XR GT, painted Gold, nearly original and with only 34,849 miles, could bring from $100,000 to $130,000. FPV photographed this car to promote the new 40th Anniversary GT.
Holden Values Rising
Holdens are also due to bring good prices. A rare, completely authentic Sebring Orange 1969 HT Monaro GTS 350 in mint condition is estimated to go for $150,000 to $180,000. The 1972 LJ Torana XU-1 finished in ‘Lone O’Ranger’ could bring between $85,000 and $100,000. It must be one of the lowest mileage examples around with only 21,592 miles. An increasingly valuable 1980 Firethorn Red VC HDT ‘Brock’ Commodore, number 206 of the limited run of 500, in good restored condition may earn $50,000 to $65,000, and a 1972 Monaro LS 350 coupe in top restored condition with rare Chateau Mauve Metallic paintwork could sell in the $30,000 to $40,000 range.
USA Opportunities
From the American camp comes a genuine LHD Acapulco Blue 1967 Shelby Mustang GT350 Fastback, completely restored to correct detail, that Shannons expect to sell for $200,000-$240,000. A stock, LHD 1970 Boss 302 Mustang finished in Medium Red with well-documented history should fetch between $110,000 and $140,000. A ‘74 Plymouth 'Cuda' 440 Hardtop, another restored car in sound condition, now considered rare, has been fitted with a 440-cid Chrysler V8 engine and reconditioned 727 automatic transmission, but will be sold with its original matching numbers 360 engine/transmission.
If you like rods, a lowered, shiny red 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Seville coupe named ‘Cool 57’, customised by the famous American hot rod builder John D'Agostinos of Kustom Cars, is on sale and may earn up to $100,000.
