A rare two-owner 1929 American Auburn, of which just 19 were built, a fully-restored and documented 1972 Chrysler Valiant Charger R/T E49 and a former National concours winning 1953 Holden FJ Special Sedan, are among a lively mixture of up to 30 special vehicles going on sale at Shannons auction at the 2008 Brisbane International Motor Show, 1-10 February.
Two more rare US Mopar muscle cars will go under the hammer as well. A completely original metallic blue with white interior 1970 Dodge Charger R/T with the desirable 440-cid Magnum V8 and ‘pistol grip’ 4-speed manual combination is among the lots, with a top condition all-black 1973 Plymouth 'Cuda with its original 340 V8 and very rare 4-speed factory manual. Several Mustangs will also appear, including a fully restored RHD 1965 Convertible painted in striking Congo Green and a 1968 Shelby GT500 in Candy Apple Red, in perfect condition with full documentation.
Another spectacular American veteran confirmed for the auction is a beautifully restored and former concours-winning 1928 Stutz BB Sports Tourer with Weymann-style fabric bodywork. But the Auburn 8-88 Open Tourer is the star of the auction so far. Its current owner bought it 35 years ago from the first owner, and only 19 of these very long, 147-inch wheelbase 7-passenger touring cars were built in 1929 – the model’s final year.
The auction will take place on the Show’s last day, Sunday 10 February and includes memorabilia and significant heritage number plates. Shannons expect to auction some desirable ‘Q-plates’. Until now, these have been sold through a separate pre-Motor Show auction staged by Personalised Plates Queensland.
“We have been looking in sheds and under car covers and have found some amazing vehicles that we never previously knew existed,” said Queensland Business Development Manager Phil Ross. All lots in the auction will be on display free to the public in the Concourse area of the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre at South Bank throughout the 10 days of the Motor Show.
Shannons’ move to stage this auction at Brisbane’s Show follows the company’s success at the Melbourne and Sydney Motor Shows.
