Bonhams & Goodman conducted an auction of Collectors
motor cars on 19 June in their Double Bay NSW rooms. This
auction followed the success of the MG Rover Administrator's
auction which had been conducted the week prior, although
with considerably less excitement. David Bird, Manager of
the Motor Car Department at Bonhams & Goodman was pleased
with the result, commenting that prices and the market both
remain strong for high quality cars. All but three cars were
sold on the day. A c1969 Ford Mustang Mach I Fastback and
the c1986 Bentley Turbo R are currently under negotiation.
The auction was well attended with over 100 registering to
bid.
Highlights included a c1974 Alfa-Romeo Montreal which sold
to a Victorian bidder for $33,300. One collector bought a
c1992 BMW 850 CI for $61,050 and a c1954 Austin Healey for
$36,075. A 1958 Mercedes-Benz 190SL also brought $62,500 and
two Victorian number plates picked up just over $20,000 each.
The Motor Car department suggests that while the market remains
strong, now could be a good time for anyone considering selling
to consign their vehicles for auction.
